Interesting to read the research but I have to give an anecdotal story. My spouse, who has type 2 DM has been on this for 6 months. He has lost 66# and his blood sugar levels are better now than when on meds. He is off all diabetic meds and his MD is ecstatic and states she loves this diet…specially for those with DM. The fat content is not 90%…it is 70% and consists of healthy fats…olive and avocado oil, coconut oil, MCT (if you want) and use real butter. I put a TBL of whipping cream in my coffee. I’ve lost 20# but have not been totally strict. We tend to eat bacon several times a week but do not eat lots of really fatty meats….mostly chicken but enjoy all the chicken meat vs eating only tasteless,dry breast meat. We have been following the DietDoctor.com. This has been the only weight loss program we have done that has caused decreased appetite, therefore eating less. We eat lots of veggies (anything that grows above ground) with occasional fruit (usually berries or an apple). I don’t feel restricted and have accepted the fact that I am most likely insulin-resistant and need to really restrict certain carbs.
