Weight Loss tips No. 3 – Low Carb Diets make you FAT!

I remember my experience with a low carb diet, it was called the ‘metabolic-typing diet’ (similar to Paleo, Primal, Atkins, Dukan) and the program recommended I avoid sweet fruits, some veggies were ok, grains were out but to load up on animal fat and protein. Organ meats were particularly desirable. So for a few months I was eating sausages for breakfast, or chicken livers, a WHOLE chicken a day ( I would put it in the slow cooker and would eat bits of flesh off the carcass all day. I felt sick, developed even more pimples than i used to, became inactive and constantly binged on high carb foods. As a result i came off the diet and binged for what seemed to be weeks and as a result got fatter than before I started!

There are always products behind low carb diet recommendations. Buy my protein powders with carbs in it, buy my huge range of processed supplements. For this reason there is literally millions to be made off undercarbed dieters. Proponents of low carb diets want you to think you are undisciplined, they don’t want you to find out the truth of the matter – that your cells are just starving of nutrition. As a result you keep rebounding to your old eating habits and stuck in the diet merry go round. Going back and forth is a good way to reduce your metabolism & teach your body to store fat .

Reasons low carb diets make you fat :
1. Low carb diets lead to bingeing & confuse the body
2. The fat you eat is the fat you wear
3. Low carb diets take away your drive to exercise
4. Low carb diets give you false weight loss hope
5. You can’t burn fat efficiently, safely or sustainably in the absence of carbs

There is NO short cuts folks, eat a high carb vegan or the banana girl diet and in time you will attain the fit, lean body you desire.

My recommendations for anyone wanting to get fit + stay fit + gain muscle + burn fat is 10g of carbs per kg of bodyweight per day MINIMUM (even on days off) and 1g of carbs per kg of bodyweight per hour when you’re out training. I personally drink enough water so Im pizz’n at least 10 times a day CLEAR and a few times a night. If my urine is yellow or straw, I just knock back a quart and Im good to go.

  • sorry but this is incorrect, currently in day 8 of a 0 carb diet and strength and lifts are improving. Motivation for exercise is as strong as ever, losing fat and feel great doing it.

  • Maybe you are thinking of no carb diets. But low carb dieting keeps your body from storing fat from taking more carbs than your body needs. A low carb diet advocates eating just the right amount of carbs that your body needs for energy per day.

  • so you consume just right amount of carbs for the energy needs and all other fat that you consume is going to be stored on you bottom and belly. Basically look at the picture. She eats at least 500g of carbs a day and she is getting fitter every day! Calorie restriction is never a permanent solution.

  • Incorrect (for me), I lose better on low carb (50 carbs per day) than I ever did doing high carb low fat! Plus no farting!! Vegetarians/vegans are some of the gassiest people on earth….

  • You are spot on. I, and many other people, have done very well with low carb diets. The no farting is great too. lol funny but very true!

  • I lost 50lbs in 3 months on low carb dieting. Under 10 carbs a day. On top of that, I didn't diet on the weekends! Wana get ripped? Do low carb! I live 5 days a week and I do 40 minutes of cardio on those days as well. Every week my lifts increase in weight or reps! Keep up the great work!

  • Wheat from carbohydrates breakdown in your body into sugars(glucose) which stores in your stomach converting into fat. Fats from protein are less likely to store in places like the stomach and bottom compared to carbohydrates.

  • Atkins is very dangerous. I would not recommend it at all. As soon as you lose stored glycogen the mood will go down and you wont have any energy left.

  • I don't think you know the feeling of low carb. The feeling is unreal. It's so amazing. I think you can only know once you do it.

  • Yes. You are right about losing energy when you don't eat carbs. But if you do it for 14 days straight your body kicks into fat burning mode. 15 of my friends including myself have done well on this diet.

  • getting energy from fat is a slow process, so don't expect to have a good energy level for running or any workout that needs endurance.

  • I have to disagree. My body does not do well on a vegan diet. I've tried it, but wheat and whole grains messes up my body. It makes me feel tired and sloppy. There's millions of people out there that can't do that type of lifestyle, not because of choice, but because their body won't allow them to. On a low carb diet, my body is able to do more than ever.

  • I'm not saying your diet is not good. I'm just saying it does not work for my body type. It might work for you and low carb might not, but for me, it's the opposite.

  • Fat makes you fat sounds really nice but has been proven false. Obesity is caused by hyperinsulinism which is cause by excessive consumption of carbohydrate. I would suggest that this is a woman who has succeeded despite her suggestions. An athletic or very active person has different requirements than the average joe but as a general rule keeping carbohydrate consumption to a minimum will only do you favors. Including avoiding diabetes, and heart disease. This is uninformed argument at best.

  • usually what the mean is that you should not consume chocolate and cakes which are considered as sweets but have very high fat content if you compare calories. Milk chocolate has 50% fat from calories.
